My LM Blenny...

Hi all!

I got a lawnmower Blenny to help rid me of some of my algae Two and a half weeks ago. He/She seems to be doing well, and it took almost a week for it to come out of the rocks. It's leaving lipmarkes in the areas my Magfloat cant reach, but now for the past few days it's staying at the top of the tank in the front.

It swims well, and seems almost playful. I've never seen him pick at the rocks, and it does seem to eat the frozen brine I give the Crabs.

Am I being worrisome for no reason? Uggg...this tank has been a graveyard..

I have one, and they are strange critters. They will very often simply rest on the bottom or on a powerhead or somthing. I thought mine was dead a few months ago because I came home to find it stuck to the powerhead intake. I reached into the tank to claim his corpse and he darted off. The weirdo was just resting I assume.

Mine also took a few weeks to get to where he would eat. I've NEVER seen him eat fish food. I've had this guy for almost a year now. Strange little man indeed.

They (really all of the blenny's, I have a redlip in a different tank) are great fish IMO. I got a 75g from someone last year after they lost power for a few weeks and gave up. It was loaded with hair algea so first addition was the LMB. She was great for ~6-7 months, and in that time the hair algea went away.

The sad part is when she no longer had the hair algea, she quit eating Used to eat food I added just fine too, but once the "main" diet was gone she just stopped eating and I couldn't do anything to make her start. Was very sad

i got one saw him swim into the tank, saw him the next afternoon, and it has been five weeks since the last sighting, and yet i still look for him everyday....

I would find food that it will accept while it is healthy. They can be difficult.

Try to get him to eat flake or pellets as soon as possible. The fact that he is eating brine is a great thing, but as we know brine is the equivalent of cheetos...yummy, but not nutritious. If you can get him to eat nutritious food, thats 90% of the battle in keeping these guys around for a good long time. Try experimenting with different foods until you find one he likes.
