White distilled vinegar, or baking soda are two of the best ways to clean hard to reach places in a skimmer.
You can use diluted bleach as well, but you MUST use a heavy mixture of dechlorinator ( About 5 times the normal amount per gallon) to neutralize the left over bleach several times.

If it has no nylon screw:
Fill up a bucket deep enough to to operate the skimmer in with what ever solution you like. Fill the skimmer up with the solution and place it in the bucket. Turn it on and let it run for 30 minutes or so with the collection cup off. If you use bleach remember to use the 5 times the norm mix and fill the bucket with it and run it for 10 minutes or so the same way.
do this at least two times witha new mix each time.
Dont forget to take off the pump and use a flexible wire brush to cleanout the intake tube as well a few minutes after it has been in use in either solution. Just replace the pump and continue after you have cleaned it out.
All three work and all three will leave your skimmer spotless.
Just dont forget about the extra steps to neutralize the bleach if you use it!
