They should be fine with what you've got. Just don't over frag them when they start looking rampant. I did that and had no success with either the frags or the mother colony... :(

That's actually typical. I don't know why.

They also seem to appreciate random waterflow over the mat.

Mine did the same, but only for two days, I did a water change, and they came out the next day. Check your params, maybe they were different from the place you got them.

Sounds about rigth. They can take a little while to get use to your tank.

I have a huge chunk of rock (10" x 8") with those green Star polyps covering it and they are spreading to my other adjacent rocks.

I have had it for about a year and sometimes (for no reason at all) it will retract for a week or so.

Water checks out ok. (NO3, pH, dKH, Ca, ect) All fine.

I can not explain it. I have a few difficult species of acropora and other delicate corals in my tank, that look perfect.

When they go in, I believe its just a phase that will pass.

Good luck.

A little bit of a hijack...sorry...but I'm slowly losing my GSPs in my nano. Everything else is doing very well. I'm moving it around the tank every three weeks to see if that helps...but no successful place found yet.

Is it possible I am missing a needed supplement for GPSs from my tank? 40% water change with IO salt every week...so I suspect I am not. Any suggestions?

I am losing Gsp's in my 15gal as well and could not figure out what could be the trouble, then I remember reading something about certain phosphate removers doing this to Gsp's. Maybe I will remove it for a while and see what happens to them?

It would not surprise me if GSP does best in "dirty" water. I say this because they seem to thrive in my display

Where does the GSP originate on the reef? The whole purpose behind a reef aquarium is to mimic the conditons found on the reef.

Knowing how it lives in the wild, we can adjust our aquariums accordingly to a specific coral's needs.

Found from fore reef slopes to lagoons. Most common on inshore and submerged reef flats in somewhat reduced water flow. From E. Bornemans' corals book.
