I have a question, currently my tank is in the basement of my house and the basement is unfinished. We are now getting around to finish the basement but I am worried that the dust from the drywalls will affect my tank. I would like to know will I have to be worried? I already have acrylic covers over the tank--and oh btw I cant move it, its a 125 gallon tank with 125lbs of live rock. Any suggestions or concerns I should be worried about???

Make sure you completely enclose the tank, sump, skimmer (very important) and have great ventilation from the rest of the construction to the outside.

The sheetrock dust will continue to settle for a couple of weeks after the construction is complete. You'll need to continue the extreme ventilation during that time as well.

Thank you so much, I have already taken those precautions but lets just say some particles so happen to fall into the tank will I have a reason for concern?

And Craig no can do on a wall setup...too much moisture, dont need that lol

imo, do your best to cover everything, but with a large tank, the minimal dust wont really affect it too much., maybe watch for ph swings and have plenty of water avail for a water change if things start to go bad..

it is also a pretty natural material that is found in oceans (gypsum), keep an eye on your skimmer, it may bubble over

This may sound a little odd but when I've worked on dust producing projects in the past I've gotten a bunch of yards of cheesecloth from the fabric store, dampened it (wring it out..) and draped it over the tops of my tanks.
Keeps all the stray dust out.
You can rinse it out on a daily basis and reuse it again and again til your project is done.
