I have a couple questions about Mantis shrimp

I have been looking for the right idea for a while for a very small tank for my computer desk, it would have to be around a gallon.

Is that too small for a Mantis?

How clean does the water need to be for them?

Does it need to be a plastic tank? Do they actually break tanks?

I think that is it for now....

Oh, how interesting is their behaviour?

Heres a suggestion knucklehead...

Focus on your job while you are at work, not a mantis shrimp. It's so hard to find good help these days...

Your boss told me to say that, don't send the clown posse after me! 8O

I think it would be a sweet idea, but I think a gallon is too small.

Some get up to 6 inches.

Lime Green Mantis Shrimp (Gonodactylaceus spp.) At most gets 4 inches.

I would do it anway. Even in a gallon. Something to occupy me at work. Haha.

mantis are messy eaters and 1 gallon is too small in my experience. try for 5 gallons. i would use acrylic to be safe but my mantis has never snapped at the tank walls before. i dont know if you will like them, they dont do very much but they sure are alien looking.

I had a Mantis tank for a few years. I think they're great but 1 gallon isn't enough IMO. I think I had a 6 gallon and it wasn't enough either. Acrylic is probably a good idea. It probably couldn't break the glass but the glass on the small tanks is super thin. I would suggest a full heater cover or one without a light. My Mantis used to love whacking the heater when the light came on. Always made me nervous.

I also buried 3/4" PVC in a 'U' shape with one end opening on the left side and one end opening on the right.
