My answer:

Skimmer: Yes

Refugium: No

Comments: I use a skimmer because I have a lot of fish in my tank and I believe that it works in bring unwanted chemical readings in the tank down. I used a refugium for a couple of months I took it down after Hurricane Katrina and I enjoyed it while it lasted. It did bring down nitrates and biologicals. I am going to make a new one in a couple of months.

Skimmer-Yes
Refugium-Yes

I always use a skimmer, all of my tanks have always done better with a skimmer.

I like a refugium to grow plants for my tangs, I have also noted that this does help increase pod population in the main tank even when there are pod predators.

Skimmer: no

Refugium: yes

Comments: my nutrient level is that low if I skim some acros begin to starve.
The refugium is only used for frags and for sedimentation.
I have to admit that I harvest brown algae (Dictyota sp.) every 4 weeks which grow in my main tank.
Part of my tank is a Jaubert (french kind of DSB)

Skimmer: No

Refugium: No

Comments: Current fishload is pretty low, so it didn't seem necessary. Will skim in next system, though. Right now, quality LR and monthly WC have been enough.
