Actually.. I've had a green flower pot now for about 5 months. That's pretty good. But it could die any day on me now. They say 3-6 months on these things. Elegance's even shorter. Here in Florida at least... the experts are saying there is a problem keeping Elegance alive for some unknown reason. I'm wondering, even if you are in Texas or the West Coast, what anybody is doing out there to keep these things alive. Even if I could keep and Elegance alive for 6 months I'd be happy. They are one of the most beautiful corals I've seen and notorious for rapidly dying on me. Should I just give up? What are you guys doing who are successful? Flower pots really flouresce very well but I gotta tell ya.... an Elegance is 5x brighter. It's like they have a generator attached to them instead of a battery pack.

I don't know of any one keeping these corals alive for extended periods of time these days (except those with colonies collected many years ago). I've heard positive results from feeding flower pots cyclopeeze, although the tough to keep variety are still probably going to die. I really don't think it's worthwhile to get an Elegance coral now, even if it is such a beautiful coral. Wasting money is one thing, but knowing that it will die within the year, I think it's unethical to waste life.

There appearsto be some progress in understanding from Bournmans project Re infection in wholesalers and retailers tanks and disease. I would reccomend not getting an elegance until we know more about what is going on. Re flowerpots there are a wide variety of species subsumed here some dying quickly in captivity some lasting lomg enough to perhaps claim success. Read up quite a bit if you desire to keep any of these species
Remember the natural life of a coral is very very long some folks say they can live forever.
Setteling for a few years is silly settling for a few months is unethical

I've had no problems keeping flower pots under metal halide lighting and heavy current in a "clam tank". No luck on elegance corals but I only tried twice! Oh, BTW, the flower pots (3) didnt make it through the hurricane. Something about no power for two months????...
