I am starting a new tank, it is gonna be FOWLR since I want to put a porcupine puffer, copper banded butterfly and perhaps a maroon clown or two.

Now most inverts cannot be with the puffer and butterfly will eat anemone.

What can I use for alge control. I was thinking a black long spinned urchin but I think the puffer will just bite through the spines, any ideas?

How big is the tank?

Foxface, other rabbitfish, of some of the brush tooth tangs like the Kole Ctenochaetus tang.

Not for anything, but if you're going fish only... the best algae control is to keep the lights off, skim really well (you should anyway because of the high bioload), and don't over feed.

eh..just my 2 cents.

If your using that setup, I wouldn't use the pc lights. The algae will love you if you do. Low light, and good water changes will keep the algae content down, as long as your source water is good.

Its going to be a 55gal
And I got some cheap 30 watt flourcent. Remora Skimmer and 55lbs of rock.

You'll be fine. Just turn on the lights when you want to see your fish, otherwise keep the lights off.

Personally I prefer to keep a normal daylight cycle going even in an FO tank. If I were a fish I wouldn't want to spend the whole day in the dark!

IMO if you can't keep algae under control in a dimly lit FO tank you've got some serious husbandry issues...
