I would like to put some sound dampening on the bottom of my submersed MAG pumps. I have some outside house 3/4" pink foam insulation. Do you guys think this would be safe?

Hi Diver4Life, and :welcome:

I don't think the pink foam would last long and might release something into the water. I would stay away from that and try and put something made of rubber under it. There are millions of things that could be used. I have used those rubber feet that are made to go underneath the legs on your couch to keep the couch from sliding on a tile floor.

McMasterCar.com sells all kind of rubber pads.

You could also Google search for "vibration isolators? and find many choices.

I don't think a mouse pad should be used when the pump is used as a submersible pump. They do work quite well for external pumps though.

If you can't find the rubber feet for the MAG, you can use two short sections of vinyl tubing for the pump to rest on.

I've been using a mouse pad for a couple of years with my submersed Mag pumps. 8O 8O Hasn't harmed anything that I can tell. Does deaden the vibration.

I have the foam they give you on mine and then I put the pump in a long ziploc container.

Louey,

Why no Neoprene on Submerged Pumps?

I wouldn't think it could be too bad if it was washed thouroughly.
Is there leaching of some sort?

Neoprene would be fine. Most mouse pads aren't made of neoprene, I don't think.

I used a mouse pad under an externally mounted mag9.5 and it still rotted in a few years time. I got water spilled on it a few times, so it did get wet. I would thing that if it had been submerged the whole time it wouldn't have lasted long at all.

Maybe mine was a cheapy?

I go down to my local gasket shop and get small pieces of leftovers from them. I always get viton, but that's just me. I'd be happy to mail you some, just shoot me a pm.
