Silencing a G3

How can I make the output on my G3 splash down less. Even with the stupid sponge it is a bit louder then I want. I am moving it from my 75 to my 58 today but the 58 is next to my bed. Would the gate valve mod allow it to return just under the water level in the sump?

Install the gate valve mod. Do a search on it. Or you can double up the sponges and go 2 high.

why not run a bit of pipe to drop the exit below the water line?

yeah i just bought two 1 and 1/4" 90degree pvc elbows and directed the water down into the sump. it really helped with noise but you will need to lower he stand pipe a bit to compensate for the extra height etc. . . i looked at getting the gate valve but this only cost me $2 and it works great. i'm still able to adjust the flow without getting my hands wet. . . and you are right. . . that sponge is worthless!

I'd say the gate valve mod would be you best bet. It stopped the salt creep and the noise for me.

Does your G3 leak around the top? Sometimes mine is fine, and others it leaks something terrible.
