How awesome is this. Reef Balls.

These guys are building reefs around the world. They use concrete and molds to farm these odd ball like shapes. They put them in the ocean, plant corals with expoy and reefs start to grow where once was a underwater waste land. Eventually the become super encrusted, like seeded live rock. Corallines, algaes and coral. Very cool.

This is a link into further detail.
It is really great too see an organization like this helping out the enviroment.

Scuba and underwater garden...Who would want that as a job!

Here is a bunch of them:

FYI I received this as an email today from Reefball:

Hi All,

Tonight, the Travel Channel (US) will air "Turning The Tide" about volunteers aiding in the Tsunami crisis marking the approach of the one year anniversary of the Asian Tsunami. The Travel Channel followed Reef Ball Volunteers to Thailand and filmed our efforts there. The Reef Ball segment of this hour long documentary is 20 minutes long so it is sure to be packed full of interesting footage. I encourage you to tune in, record it if you can, and please tell all your "Reef Ball" friends about it....as we are not sure if our normal email updates will have enough time to get to everyone before 8:00 tonight due some technical issues.

Thanks,
