Hello.
The upper frame brace on my 75gl has a crack just to the left of the center brace. I called All Glass and I can order a replacement upper brace frame for a faily cheap cost. The problem is I need to remove the old one and then silicone the new one in place.

Has anyone ever done this task? I am wondering how hard it would be to remove the existing brace..Is it siliconed everywhere or just in the corners?...Its costs $25 for the brace vs $200 to replace the entire tank....

anyone have any experience with this?

i replaced the entire top trim on a 55 gallon several years ago. it was siliconed all the way around. . . i ended up breaking the plastic in several places while removing it. no big deal just don't damage the glass. just make sure you take a razor around and clean all of the old silicone off. i thought the whole process was very easy! good luck!

i have repaired my 60 gallon trim before and it was also silicone all the way around. i cut off some of the trim and used razorblade to seperate the silicon from the glass as much as i could. once i got the trim off i used the blad to clean up the old silicone and i put in the new one. oh, i drained half the water before i did this to be safe, and use reefsafe or foodsafe silicone.

on a 55 gallon its probably not a big deal. . . but for $25 or less for a new brace i'd rather have the assurance that it won't blow out. . . just my two cents

I am about to get a 120 or 140 tall maybe in the summer. The current 55 i bought for 100 bucks. Stand, asstorted filters, and all. Its all scratched from the previous owner. I want to upgrade because I want more elbow room.

the 55 will become a sump/fuge. Good idea or bad? Better choices?

i am using a 30 gallon tall aquarium for my sump and a 30 gallon long for my fuge for my 120 gallon. A 55 gallon probably wont fit under a 120 gallon tank in the stand since they are both 48 inches. . . something to consider. . . also imho i have foud that "tall" tanks are a real pain. with the added height and any additional height your canopy may or may not add you might find it difficult to reach the bottom of the tank. i had that trouble with my 90 gallon - had to use tongs to reach the sand . . . i would go for the 120 gallon before the 140tall. . . just my opinion! good luck!
