At what point should I be concerned about temperature swings? I currently only have a chiller and wonder if I need a heater. I have my chiller kick on at 79 degrees. The lowest thermometer reading I've seen is 78.2 degrees due in part I believe because of the heat generated by all my equipment being in a closed cabinet.

With that being said, my temps range from a low of 78.2 to a high of 80 degrees within a 24 hour period. Is that ok? How low is too low?

BTW i have 300 gallon tank if that makes any difference.

Mine swings from 73.4 to 84.1 daily. I have all types of corals with no issues as of yet. However I want to add a anenome for my pair of clowns and I think those swings are too much for a BTA. So I purchased a chiller and I am in the process of setting it up. There is a thread on here earlier that was a pretty good read. Stability is probably very important, and I have been lucky to avert anything bad happening with such a large swing in temp. I don't recommend the temp swing style at all and as I stated I am in the process of correcting my issue.

I agree that 3 - 4 degrees is all the swing you should have.
