I re-did the lighting on my refugium today. It previously had a tall hood that was a PITA. To do any work at all in the tank usually meant removing the hood which is difficult to do by myself.

I had been look for some bell pendents but that didn't make much sense because they aren't an efficient reflector.

I want to grow frags out in the upper part of the refugium. I am going to build shelf with egg crate for the frags.

I decided that the lumearc mini's would work well for the purpose of growing out frags, and make the refugium easier to work in.

It is funny how much more light you get in the tank with the lumenarc reflectors. They are awesome.

I should have taken a before shot. Doh!

I used jack chain, eye bolts, and turn buckles to mount the mini's to the shelf I built above the tank.

The turn buckles made it a snap to adjust the reflectors to get them level.

I'm actually looking to replace my current reflectors with lumenarcs. Is there an advantage to the original over the A3? I assume that you can just light a larger area? I've currently got 3 400 watt halides over my tank. I'm thinking I would like to remove the one in the middle and just use the two lumenarcs. Do you think they would be enough to cover six feet? I should also tell you that the halides are the only light for the tank and my tank is acrylic so I've got a massive brace in the middle of my tank a real PIA.

Thanks.

Also your setup looks really nice. :D

I also like that skimmer. That's the one with the red dragon pump, right?

Yes, the skimmer is a Bubble King with a Red Dragon pump. It rocks.

I have the larger Lumenarc III's on my 300G. I have four of them on it and it's 8's long.

Two on a 6' tank would probably work fine. Just keep the higher light corals closer to the reflectors.

I can't say about MH and acrylic. Heat is an issue for acrylic. The heat could warp the bracing and cause the tank to fail. Some people do use MH on acrylic tank. You might want to start a thread on that subject to get the particulars.

The only advantage to the mini's is they take up less space. I used them here because I wanted easy accessability to this particular tank. I don't know about the difference in the spread of light. I don't think Sanjay did a study on the mini's.

Here's a couple pics of my first try at a frag rack. It might be a bit too high. Making it shorter will be easier than making to taller ;)

Out of curiosity, how come in the one pic the eyescrews or bolts don't go through where the little crossmark is made?

That right there looks like a knucklemove....

I always say burn an inch and drill twice...

Looking good by the way.

I would like to have a smaller one than that to hang over my tank right behind my current lights.

Busted! I eyeballed it when I made those marks. It was off by a good 2". I should have plumb bobbed it.

Nice work. With the frag rack what are you going to use a "plugs". If it is anything that adds up in weight you will want to zip-strip a few pcs of pvc across the length for support.

I'll be using pieces of rubble for now.

I'll add the cross bracing if needed.

I think I might do a little fragging today.

Hey where did you get the reflectors. I just went through all the suppliers in my favorites and don't see any of them have it.

I just went to zeovit and registered. Second time I have been to the site, it seems like a lot to go through and I couldn't find a search bar to find this group but. Was it actually a group buy, or like the power buys here? Where is it located.

Here's the thread. Don't know if they will do another order. Won't hurt to ask.

FWIW - I'm not into the zeovit method at all, but that site has a bunch of Bubble King skimmer owners as members and I started visiting that site when I was doing my research on the BK's. It's a nice site.
