Has anyone ever had success killing mushrooms by injecting with a solution of lemon juice, calcium, magnesium, etc.? (Would certainly be good to remove them after death - before decay.) Or better yet - a method of making them release their hold on the rocks. I've heard of blowing a pump stream at them, but with nearby corals that would also be irritated... The people at Joe's Juice didn't think their product would work. The things are multplying too fast on rocks that cannot be easily removed from the reef. (Rocks with lots of texture making removal by cutting difficult.) The brown hairy variety are the worst!

Thanks!

I am having the same problem with mine. I tried to hide them under and behind some rocks and low and behold they have krept out of the darkness into the light like the dominions of evil that they are. After my vacation TUES if I still have a tank upon return, I am going to try to peel them off. Friggin mushrooms.

I know this is a pain in the rear, but about the only way I have found for getting rid of them is by hand with an exacto knife. While holding the cup with tongs, I just slice and dice the base and then go back to the spot after and scrub it with a tooth brush.
I learned this technique with Xenia.

I hardly ever get any grow back.

Hope this helps.

Cut them off with a razor knife then apply superglue to the whole area where the base of the shroom was attached. Then it won't grow back.

That's the only way that has worked for me.

If you cut them with a knife, you can apply a very thick kalk paste over the remaining base. If you scrub the remainder with a brush you could just end up spreading them throughout the tank. One of the ways to spread them in a tank was to put them in a blender and pour the puree into the tank.

I had good luck with pure lye (NaOH). It would completely melt mushrooms within a few minutes (very cool to watch). But I had too many to kill off, so the ultimate solution was a totally tank break down and rebuild 8O
