I know has happened to many people many times before, but it's still the coolest thing to me to see the aquarium filled with hundreds of tiny little transparent shrimps kicking about in the water column. Taking a flashlight to the dark tank, it looks like its snowing in there 8)

Mine tend to molt right after a spawn. I've never seen a shrimp molt though, have you? The last time they decided to, I watched til about 1AM, and I had to go to bed...

One of the cleaners has disappeared from sight today, so it's probably molting :P I never noticed this habit. Interesting.

My pair of cleaners will hatch alternately every few weeks. I've tried to raise the babies in the past but they all die after a week or so... it would be cool if I could because the LFS guy says they'll pay me 1/3 of what they get for one :) Next try is going to be in my spare 72G filled with the brillow pad algae on top... maybe more water and some copepods will be what they need.

How do you sex shrimp? or do you? can you add another adult of the same species w/out them killing each other?

They are hermaphrodites. Any two will breed 8O

It must be something special with that plankton soup out in the ocean, huh?

I'm thinking rots might work, anything larger would be too hard for them

they sure look like little monsters though

I think it's really amazing how everything is there, little legs flailing and tail. I didn't see any antenna though...perhaps they are too fine to see with the naked eye.

I've raise a LOT of Peppermint Shrimp from Larvae but exactly 1 Scarlet. I don't even try anymore. The Peppermint shrimp only stay in the larval stage about 50-70 days. The Scarlet I managed to grow was in the Larval stage for over 100 days.

They can eat newly hatched BBS and really go for the BBS eggs in the "Parachute" stage if you know what I mean. They also like the freeze dried version of Cyclop-eeze, floating pellets, and even flake food. They can chew so as long as what they're eating can't put up a fight then can munch on a fairly big piece of food for hours.

wings, both are out and about now. I think I'll get some other species of shrimps (CBS or Fire shrimps perhaps). It would be nice if they spawned regularly :)

Len, my CBS is very teritorial and was chasing my cleaners all over the aquarium (and clipping them antennas). I think that the only thing that saved my cleaners is that they can swim while the CBS apparently can't (never saw it).
