Hi everyone,

The wooden brace in my canopy was specifically designed to allow a Lumenarc III to rest right on top of it:

I'll be running a 400W bulb, and was wondering if the rim of the Lumenarc will be two hot for the wood.

Thanks in advance!

Mine doesn't get very hot. It's a huge heat sink. I can touch any area of the reflector without getting burned, and I can rest my hand on the lower perimeter indefinitely.

I had no idea you're starting a new tank :D That will be an insane amount of light mounted that low. I assume this is going to be an SPS tank :P

Since mine are ducted, they get warmer the further down the line you get. The first one is fairly cool and the last one before the vent in the wall is rather warm. But like Len said, you could rest your hand on it indefinately.

Why are you mounting your reflector caddy corner like that? Seem that mounting it square would make better use of the reflectors spread, no?

Was this also the case when you had the 400watters, Len?

It'll be an SPS/clam tank. The bulb will be exactly 10" from the waterline.

I didn't want too much light going into the corner overflow. The main rockscape structure will run diagonally from the overflow to the other corner. Since is where I'll be placing the more light demanding stuff, the Lumenarc will be centered on top of it. The opposite corners will have their own bommies.

I'm using 400W aquaconnects right now. I still have both 250 and 400W here (at least 5 pairs of bulbs). I can't seem to make up my mind ;)

FYI: My LA3 are not air cooled/vented like Loueys. I still have no issues with heat. The hottest part is obviously the very top of the reflector (which I have spaced away from my canopy's wood with 1/2" metal spacers), but the bottom portion does not get burning hot.

Okay, so it should be fine on the wood.

Yeah, I've been planning this set-up for months. Right now, I'm at a cross-road with the plumbing, so I'll have to wait a bit longer before I can fill it up.
