My father in law just moved and tore down his tanks. He just had one fish in each tank and I'm keeping them in a 10 gallon until he sets his tanks up again in his new house. Problem is, he's transient for at least a month, maybe more. Then I have to wait for him to move in and wait until I drive to NC to visit him and I can bring his fish.

I thought about adding his fish to my tank and then he can just buy some new fish and take his time setting up his tanks again. My 75 gallon tank can support them biologically and there is enough space, but I'm worried about how the striped damsel will get along with my fish.

I have a yellow tang, a clown fish, a PJ cardinal, and a neon goby.

One of his is a chromis. No big deal there. I can add him to my tank no problem.

The striped damsel is the problem.

So should I just plop him in my tank and hope all goes well, or should I keep him in the 10 gallon?

BTW, he's over a year old and about half as big as they get. He's in a 10 gallon with the chromis, but I divided the tank with egg crate giving him 2/3 of the tank and 1/3 for the chromis. But the chromis can fit through the egg crate just fine and he prefers to be with the damsel most of the time. the damsel doesn't bother him...nips at him a couple of times, but no damage and no serious attack.

Are damsels really that mean?

I know. But he's like a family fish and I'm worried that two months in a 10 gallon tank will do him bad. If I kill him, I'm in trouble with my in laws. Then again...if I stick him in my reef there is no getting him out until I move. That could be years. :?

Does anyone have one of these that gets along with other fish? He doesn't mind the chromis at all.

if he doesnt mind the chromis i think you might be lucky and have a very good temperment damsel. i see damsels with other fish and they are usually ok. the nasty ones get really nasty tho.
