I got my MD refractometer today.. very cool little jobber. I calibrated it and tested my water..... welllllll, lets say.... 1.027 and the swing arm thing i was using... 1.024... wow... what a difference...

i recommend one to everyone who has $50 and likes marinedepot or premiumaquatics. they each have thier own brand...

I picked up one about a month ago. Swingarm read 1.025, refractometer read 1.030 (!) I was hoping the refractometer was wrong, but it ended up being right. I still feel bad for having subjected the inhabitants to such an environment for so long.

One thing I noticed is that the refractometer didn't work to well using my MH bulb as a light source. The line between the two colors was difficult to see. You need a nice full spectrum light to get an easy to read measurement.

I bought a refractometer from one of our sponsors a few years ago when it was a powerbuy.

They are nice little pieces of test equipment.

I still spot check my reading with my old hydrometers just to see how they compare to the refractometer. This helps you know when it's time for recalibration.

I think PA nd MD are using the same "no brand" refractometer..

I agree you need a nice full spectrum light to see the reading well...

As long as it has ATC you are fine.

Otherwise you have to do the math, I also have the ATC PA onewhich I got a few years back. I Love it, well worth the money!
