I think combination of small, medium, and large rocks will work great. But not too big that one single rock takes up half the tank. Its hard to position a rock so big. But then again when you get a little creative anything is possible. IMOP use big rocks to stack then use smaller rocks to fill in gaps where the big ones can't fit any more.

What do you guys consider small, medium and large rocks? To me: Sm 3in-5in, med 6in-12 and large anything above 13in. Keep in mind I am talking about squared inches.

I believe that you can create a magnificent rock display using any size rock (besides rubble unless you have a nano). It is up to your creativity. My approach to aquascaping any tank is to set up my large pieces first to get the idea of form then use the medium rocks to fill in. Finally I use the small rocks to fillin the gaps and empty spaces.

I think this thread would have a clearer direction if we came to a consensus as to the sizes of different rock.

I know that I can create a great display in a large tank using only small rocks. But then again I have a great eye for dimension, depth and spacial form.

I guess I underestimated common sense and should have posted: 3 inches to the 3rd power, and so on and so forth. Thats about the size of a baseball. :D

I dont know many people who have 2 dimensional rock that measure 1.5X2inches.

So from a hardball to a softball we can say is a small size rock?! I can definitely work with that in a large tank. But then again, the down side will be trying to get to the bottom of the tank to start placing the rock. lol
