anybody know for a fact if phos-x is an aluminum based product or iron oxide based? Looks to be iron as it is rust colored. A guy brought in a few brand new boxes of it to work for me. He has a fresh water plant tank and was trying to remove all of the phosphates from his water until I told him that plants need phosphates! So I have a few boxes here unopened. Should I use them on a mixed reef or just send them back home with him? Thanks!!

ps - i typically use phosban and rowaphos on my system now (when i need it)

Says its suitable for fresh and salt water enviorments.
I used it on one of my frag tanks with no problems at all.
I highly suggest RINSING THE BEJESUS out of it before hand though.

No problem, But just remember one thing before you use it.
If you have a phosphate problem that stuff only treats the symptoms not the problem. ;)

that's assuming that phosphates could be kept at absolute zero without some sort of removal method . . . if you feed your fish your tank has phosphates. having a test kit that's sensitive enough to measure to the 10th or even a 100th of a ppm is crucial for maximum coral growth- many kits stop at 1ppm. i use ro/di water and rinse all foods before use. some of the best tanks i've ever seen run rowaphos in a reactor 24/7 ie: http://www.oregonreef.com thanks for the info though!
