someone is giving me a 45 gallon tank and stand with all the pumps and everything.

it was freshwater, has an undergravel filter...

Sounds like a nice tank to put in the basement for a sump doesn't it?

That means I might have to do some more replumbing besides designing the "knuckleflow" that I am currently working on......

Anything Free is worth exactly what you pay for it....

At least that's what my Grandpa used to say

As long as the tank holds water I will be happy, I am so excited about all this plumbing stuff I can hardly contain my joy....

check for copper!

Also, 45's are really wierd sized. Might only be good as a sump.

that is all I would use it for

I can't have another tank in the house, I don't have anywhere to put it.

How do you check for copper? The tank will be empty. Do I fill it up and then do a test? or should I just cut away the silicone on the inside and reapply it?

I'd take it outside, fill it with water, and add some muratic acid. Let that sit for a day and rinse it out real good. Let it dry completely.

Then to be extra safe, not that I would do this, but you could fill it then run some carbon or poly filter for awhile.

I will probably do that

Its not like I am in a hurry to set it up, I have to buy a return pump first.....

Free stuff is always sweet. My grandparent's silver dollar finally died (after about 8 years), and now they're giving me their 30 gal, along with all the accessories they've collected over the years.

New planted tank!
