.....Can my Astrea go with out his shell? He's been naked since January 11th, and I keep placing shells around, just incase. Does he mak his own? Does he need any type of additive to help him get started, or to insure it?

It's quite cute, and has adapted very well, sneaking into cracks in the rock for a munch. He's without a predator, BTW.

Well, His shell now resides on the back of a rapidly expanding BL Hermit.

I do not think a snail can live with out it's shell. I believe the astera died and what you are seeing is somthing else. Possibly a stomella.

Allright, lets say it's a Stomella. Where would I have picked this up, is it allrigh to have?

I'm off to see pictures of a Stomella...

They are hamless. Hitch hike in on the rocks. Just for future reference I can not spell.

Stomatellas are great I have a bunch, but my numbers are receding relative to the increase in the number of starfish that are appearing. But I love my stomatellas. Glad they came in on the rock.

You'll find it under Stomatella. Likely, hitched a ride on your LR.

This may sound rude, and it's not NOT how I want it to sound, but how? I have no new, and I have even done FW dip on this stuff, like 6 months ago. I have a 10 G, and there is not one inch of it foreign to me. I wonder can these guys go dormant, or something? Could it have just appeared, like a Cyano, or nuicence algae?

Hidden egg sacks on a coral you bought, or on your rock when you bought it more than likely. Fresh water dips will not kill thier eggs. ;)
As your tank matures you will see some prety amazing stuff start to emerge you never new was in there.

my tank's been up for three years and I still find stuff that blows my mind. Tip toe out to it in the middle of the night with a flashlight. First time I did that I saw some stuff that actually creeped me out. :?
