I just had 5 turbo snails die.

30 Gal
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 50
Ca 80
PH 8.2
Temp 80
Salinity 1.024
Alkalinity - very high

I did a 20% water change after getting these test results. I am going to retest tonight

Is it possible the low calcium levels is what caused their deaths.

Thanks

Sounds like your water buffer may be out of balance. Probably a wise thing to do a water change. Do you suppliment your water with anything?

I added one dose of Seachem Reef Builder. Two weeks ago.

After that my Alkalinity went through the roof and have been trying to bring that back down.

My alk is very high and my Ca very low. I was going to pick up some Kent liquid calcium tonight to try and bring everything back inline. Once stable I plan on using kalkwasser.

So can low calcium kill my snails or do I have another problem to solve.

thanks

Sounds like the tank may be rather alkaline which is bad for life. I would probably test the alk again and do another water change if needed. Additives are probably going to do more harm than good right now. Once your water is chemically balanced again, that's when I would start using additives.
