I can't seem to keep a heater running for more than 12 mos. I have a 100gal tank in my office and have used a single 500w, dual 350w's, single 250w and 350w. In the last 3 1/2 yrs I have gone through 5 heaters. I have used Won Bros, Pro Heat, Jali, always the titanium, in sump, with and without controllers. The element never comes in contact with air as it is in the sump.

I am currently using single 350w Pro Heat and keep another similar as a backup. What are you doing, and suggestions, have you had failures? I need feedback, please. Is this just normal?

How much current is the line the heater is plugged into drawing?

Sometimes if you are drawing too much current for the line it tends to burn things out.

An example would be running a heavy duty radial arm saw off of a 100 foot extension cord. Not only does the extension cord get hot, but the saw does not have enough current to run properly. Eventually it will stop working.

Happened to my Father in law..

That's one thing to think about, as for recommedations of good heaters I don't know, I am still using cheap glass ones....

The only three heater failures I've had in the last 15+ years were due to exposure to air (glass cracked) and one titanium heater's controller malfunctioned and refused to turn on. I don't think heater failures are normal. Unfortunately, I don't have much electrical knowledge to help ya.

What is failing? Do they get stuck on or not heat at all. I have my WON stick on.

I bought a Ranco Dual-Stage controller that Iplug the heater into. I trust the Ranco more than the thermostat in the heater itself.
