My 125 is topless and I run an ASM G3. It evaps about a gallon a day year around.

What I believe is the reason is that your tank's surface area has increased a lot. A 120 is 48"x24" and your new tank is 52"x28". Coupling that with a larger sump and skimmer(more waste water produced) would explain the extra loss. If you upgraded lighting and fans, the evap would get even greater.

I doubt it is a leak.

Good luck.

Tank Size? - 58G
Use of skimmer? - Wet - Euroreef ES5-3
Open or enclosed top? = Opened into a canopy that is 18 in high with an open back.
Circulation system? - Mag9 on sump return, Tunze stream, maxijets
Location? - NY - cold dry winters

I evaporate about 1-1.5G a day in the winter - 1G in the summer. I run a 6-inch clip on fan in the canopy blowing across the water for evaporative cooling.

180g cube w/55g sump. Most all open to air. Beckett skimmer, plus a turf scrubber w/cooling fan that runs at night. During the day the lighting pendant is cooled by a standard type fan, sitting on a ledge.

In the winter, with the HRV and woodstove running, {dry air}, I evaporate 3g/day. In the summer when the relative humidity is higher, its a fair bit less.

Tank Size? - 260G in two tanks that share a sump
Use of skimmer? - Big Wet-run DIY countercurrent
Open or enclosed top? = Open completely
Circulation system? - Mag24 + Mag9.5 on sump return + various powerheads
Location? - NY - cold dry winters as well, and this system is out on an insulated sun porch.

I get as much as 3Gpd evaporation. Right now with the wood stove going, I can barely get away with 2 days not dumping 5G of R/O in there.

Hey Guy, I had no idea you had a 1000 gallon tank!

It's not your typical setup. It relates to your evap thread because it has 64 square feet of surface area.

Yes, the Halimeda was out of control. It looks a lot better now and the water circulates better as well.

This thing is really nice to look at but incredibly difficult to photograph. The "lid" goes up only 18" or so because of the low ceiling in the basement.

Anything in particular you want to see?

How about a shot from the front of the tank and some of the equipment.

To hell with Len's thread. Make this a Guy thread

Front? I don't know where that would be. It's only viewable from the top. The sides are plywood.

That's different. Don't know that I have ever seen an aquarium that was plywood all the way around.

I'd loved to see you tank in person. If I ever make it that way I'll look you up.

Thanks for the pics.

Currently, 3-4 g/day
220,100,30&20 with covers, 90,40&30 open plus 45&55connected sump
1 downdraft ETSS skimmer & 1 euroreef skimmer
Plenty of circulation and lots of light in the larger tanks

NY - we have seasons
therefore a room a/c plus a chiller in the basement.
I have had and expect high evap rates in the summer

Same with me, about 3-4 g/day. Mine is mostly due to a stock tank sump and 2 open top frag tanks. That and my canopy isn't finished so the ends are open. Procrastination.
