I recently purchased a racoon butterfly and since I got him transferred to the main tank he has been swimming up near the top bobbing it's snout in and out of the watter... it does every once and awhile swim a little lower around the tank then back to the same spot bobbing it's snout out is this normal behavoir for the racoon butterfly?? if not any suggestions on what to do... I hate to loose it...

I've kept a few butterflies and IME I would not call this typical behavior. Can you tell us about your setup and basic water parameters?

In the meanwhile, I'll move this to the main discussion forum and leave a shadow in the NRF as well so more folks will see it...

Sounds like it's getting picked on by other fish. Is it eating?

I agree with Matt, I adopted a Racoon recently, the guy said it was eating, however after a multitude of food offerings, it did not. It had a bit of harrassment from a Pakistani butterfly, but was too weak to ride it out.

I agree it is getting picked on I have 10 butterfly's in my tanks 4/3/3 and they tend to spend most of their time on the lowerrocks, i sugest a live rock hiding hole if you dont have one it needs to be deep and narrow so that only that fish can get in it can be vertical or at a 45% it should use this to hide from the bully in the tank..
