When feeding zooanthids or yellow polyps etc.., how does one know that the food being fed is actually being digested? WHen I target feed, the polyps close as the food comes in contact with the polyps . How does one know that the polyps are not being irritated by the food and that is why they are closing. Are they capturing the food or trying to avoid it? How can u tell?

With the yellow polyps, it is obvious that they are feeding if they have a mysis half way down the mouth. But when feeding plankton to my yellow polyps I am not sure if they are responding positively to my target feeding and closing the polyps to ingest food or closing the polyps cos they are trying to limit the exposure to my target feeding routine.

they are PIGS ( yellow polyps) its a GOOD guess they are eating every time they close when you feed the tank. Think of them as a "prety aptasia"
Little bastages wil eat anything. Love em' though!! LOL!

Most zoanthids will allow you to target feed. Palythoas and protopalythoas can be spot fed though easly if the food stuffs offered is fairly fine.
I spot feed my pink protopalythoas, and my red protopalythoas all the time.
They are pigs to once they get used to the idea of being fed.
