I remember a few months ago I found a site that listed all the possible household items to say lower ph (white viniger), raise calcium (pickl. lime) and so on. Just wondering if anyone has linked it ? I thought I did but can't seem to find it.

I don't have the link you are looking for but having a degree in chemical processing, I would be very careful using household items to play with pH or alkalinity and the like. If you have no clue as to what a buffer REALLY is, then I suggest you stick to quality products like Seachem buffers and the like. I know what a real buffer is and I do not raise my pH with bicarbonate sodium, even if I know that it will in fact raise the pH. There is a good reason behind this.

Anyway, this is a free world and if you choose to use these household products, by all means, please do. I know I would not.

Kind regards,

Sponge

i've been using all of the stuff he recommended since that post. i have also started using "home made" salt . . . my tank has been doing great ever since. i have hard and softcorals, clams, inverts, and fish. i haven't noticed any side effects except a much fatter wallet. . .
