ok guys. weve decided its worth around a grand to us for tank upgrade. I'm leaning toward a 60g cube from glasscages at around $140 undrilled. I figure it should cost around $200 when everythings said and done. I think ive decided on a hamilton 400w de pendant for lighting. it will be around $200 after i sell my other MH pendant to help pay for it. that leaves around $600 for equipment. I'll be using my current skimmer so no skimmer is needed.

will the remaining 600 get me where i need to go?

what would YOU DO?

DIY sump (if you do it yourself the cost is < 1/3). I ordered pre-cut sizes of acrylic from Delvies Plastics and the weldon 4 for a 20gallon sump for $100. I was quoted $300. Plus, I actually have some acrylic left over. I'd also get a really good (low maintenance) closed loop pump like a panworld (blueline) or sequence.

Any specific items that you are missing? Heater, Ca reactor, etc? Looks like you have a bunch of equipment from a previous project :D .

no need for a ca reactor IMO, have a titanium heater with external thermostat and internal probe.

What closed loop pum would u guys recommend ?

What SUMP pump would you recommend?

Never ventured into this world.. what is the brand everyone chases?

Suggestions for the tank. Make the stand wider and longer than the tank. I did not have much room under my 60 cube for much gear. If you can use a standard aquarium you could get some glass pannels for less than even building an acrylic sump. Something like a 20 gal tank would be good. On my 60 I had a panworld 30hd for the return pump and a sequence, forget the modle, it was like 3300 gph. Considering how little room you will have in the stand you may want to consider using a submersible pump. Something like a mag 9 or 12.

I agree. There's not much room in a cube stand, and you'll find yourself needing to build up, rather than across :?

Here's how crowded mine is:
