Maybe, If he has been eating flakes or some other composite or any steady diet for a good amount of time he might refrain, but dont be surprised if he at least samples it. Keep in mind, if the fish is set up to eat xenia and other soft corals the best way to keep the fish trained is to keep the little buddy well fed untill the "nibbling" subsides.
Personally, I had very little problem with a juv. Majestic angel (another coral muncher) I was attempting to steer away from coral. I used a Simple but time consuming process: I kept him well fed using mainly a pre mixed angel food (Ocean Nutrition Angel Formula) and alge wafers with an additional mix of brine shrimp and home grown copepods on a solid timeline. After about 45 days, I put a couple frags of my overly reproductive red mushrooms on a seperate peice of LR in plain sight. He ate about 2 discs in around 4 days and nibbled 2 (that lived). Depressing? Not at all, he left 3 more seemingly untouched for another 2 weeks untill I tranfered him to the reef.
The result of this training left me with a much more flexable fish and his natural urge to consume coral has left him with an occational nip that leave no real marks. Yay!
General idea: Overcome the gap in diet with timing of feeding, apeasing thier broad "grazing" style diet and lots of PATIENCE. Good luck.
