moving tanks... from 37g reef in bedroom to 60g cube in living room. Plan on using existing LR and all the water I ca get out of the other tank for bacterial reasons.

Only 1 skimmer and 1 light.

Any problem with moving it all at once into the new tank? Sounds kinda risky doesn't it.

I could run my new tank for a few days with water it in, but I can't really skim it or run a light on it untill my inhabitants are in there.

Any ideas?

I dont go to one extream.. I've got probably 2 inches of "sand / crushed stuff" on the bottom of the 60 and bout 1 inche on the bottom of the 37.

Interesting that you mentioned sand bed... ive gone to a more coarse sand than my previous tank.. be interesting to see how it works out.

If it were me. I would move the rock first. Then I would acclimate the fish and corals to the new tank water in the old tank. Once that was done I would move the fish and corals over. I would plan on leaving the last 25% (rough number for talking purposes) of the water in the old tank so as not to transfer the crud in the sand.

Actually it should not if you have water in the new tank also. The move from tank to tank will not be bad. The only thing I can see it if you stir up the crud in the rocks and sand during the transfer.

In one of my houses I redid the floor and that is how I move the critters to the holding tank and back again. No noticable cycle.

As long as I use my LR and water from my old tank, im not sure why it would cycle at all. The bacteria should be in place to keep the cycle in place.

I guess thats what Ill have to do. I don't really have a choice :)

TONIGHT!
been making water all morning.

tonight is water and skimming. Tomorrow I'll test parameters and install lights and inhabitants.

feels like im really moving fast, but like posted, i really dont have a choice. besides i really dont see what can go wrong. im using same LR and a lot of the same water... new sand, and same lighting. the flow will be a little differnt, but thats about it.

wish me luck!

Just use as much water as you can from the old tank as well as all the LR. I would dump the sand bed and get a new one. If you try to re use it it may start a cycle and release all kinds of nutirents into the Water. Let it settle a couple of hours before adding your fish and corals! I have done this 3 times with VERY minimal loss!

How are you going to do the flow again? I might have read it but can't seem to remember. I know you got a Tunze, right? CL also? Tossing the other PHs?

Good luck! :D

haha i never toss anything.

i have a Tunze 6000. I also have the return from the sump at 950g/h on one side. The overflow will also add some movement.

I think I'll have PLENTY of flow.

I'm keeping the powerheads for various projects along the way... need to make a pump for water changes from one i think.
