Got a frag of xenia from a friend....also owns lfs. In three weeks time the xenia had already started to spread and babies were all over the frag rock. The stalks grew thicker and the polyps were almost touching the glass. Now it is at about 6-7 weeks and as of yesterday...there is just a clump of closed xenia.

In the search option I found a few topics where xenia is known to simply crash for no reason...are there any reasons yet?

Tank is about 6 months old...established very quickly...parameters have all been good except my alkalinity got way too high. Have lowered that some (not tested it in a couple of days), otherwise, no changes. I am due a water change.

Do xenia close up for a few days or weeks like many soft corals, then show a growth spurt, or does it mean they are on their way out?

Thanks :D

There is no such thing as "for no reason". It's just for "unknown reasons". For me, at some point was "dirty water". After I started my skimmer it came back. It came so strong, that now I am trying hard to destroy it. Be careful what you wish for. If I were you I'd not try to fix it.
