AquaC Ev-120 ($340)

ASM G-3 ($340)

ASM G-2 ($280)

AquaC Urchin Pro ($230)

First Skimmer! Lots of research and it's come down to those four. (Steve at AquaC has been an incredible help!) But what would you recommend (and please, post lots of opinions! I need your help guys!!!) for my 75G FOWLR, future softies reef tank??? Don't want to skimp but I am on a tight budget so $100 would make a difference for me at the moment, unless needed! Thanks for the time!

ASMs use a lot less power and skim about as well. I would get the G3 if I were you. I run mine on a 125 so it would kick butt on a 75.

I just found out that the price I had for the ASM was without a pump. I updated the original post. So, the ASM stacks up way better than the AquaC? And for my set up, should I go with the G-3 or would G-2 do great? And what pump do you recommend for either one of them?

Is the Urchin Pro out of question?

Yeah, their service is great! I've had first hand experience and that is why I was leaning towards them. Would the Urchin Pro be too small for my setup?

And Snowman, that Cappuccino Bay Store is great! As soon as I get this skimmer and my upgraded lights (which are soon to be on the way!) I'll be on my way over there to start off my corals! Thanks a lot!

This one is $242 with the pump, plus shipping.

I suggest the Gate Valve Mod as well. It really helps fine tune the skimmer's performance.

A G2 would be fine for your application but for the small difference in price, personally I would just get the G3. As for pumps - the G2 normally comes with the Sedra 3500 and the G3 with the Sedra 5000.

IMO it's really not in the same performance class as the others in your list and considering it's about the same price as the G2 I wouldn't even consider it. JMO of course...

I didn't know that they came with the pump from asmskimmer.com. Sorry! Without the Gate Valve Mod, will I have trouble adjusting it?

You will get your hands wet when adjusting it and it is not as precise as the GVM.

The pipe is easy to get but they all plastic gate valves are hard to find and expensive. Do not even try a ball valve.

What consists of the mod besides the gate valve? I saw the picture and it looks like 1" pipe, is that right? And a tee also. How is it put together? I'm going to try and see how much all that would be to see if it'd be worth it to put it together or just order it online. Thanks!

I use a g3 on my 75 as well and love it, better then many Aqua c skimmers I have owned. I just replaced the sponge on the g3 with some 1 1/4" PVC off the riser tube, a T, a 90 degree and a 4-5" piece of 1 1/4" pvc made it very quiet and easy to adjust.

And what is the amount of bubbles coming out of the ASM G-3 like? A lot or minimal? Should I have baffles before my return sump if I go with the G-3?

Ben, I sent you a PM. :D

Have a G3 sitting in 10.5", very few bubbles. Other than bubbles, the baffles will also keep the water height for the skimmer constant.

If I'm not stretching all the help everyone's provided to the extreme, how much water does the G-3 move? In other words, how much sump water flows through the skimmer by means of the sedra 5000?

about 500 gph prior to air being drawn through the venturi.

I saw the specs and it seems like the G-3 itself is 25 inches high, so how much space is needed total to remove the collection cup? For easy maintenance? Thanks!
