are these things just glorified powerheads? are they HOT? Hard to tell from pictures.

Anyone use them? Could I use a couple of these in place of a circulation closed loop?

thanks

I have a tunze stream in my tank and I like it allot. Gives a nice wide pattern of flow and moves allot of water.

setting up a 60g cube. IYO would 2 tunze streams on both sides on the back be adequate water movement for the tank? Say a tunze 6080? Also, are they HOT? or installed on the inside wall? Reason im asking is because my tank will be eurobraced.

thanks

Kicks the crap out of maxijets(still have maxijets and like them also)and the like. They use very little power too. They hang on or they sell a magnet holder.

Here is mine in on the top righthand side with the magnet mount(a must IMO):

With the magnet holder there is no need to worry about eurobracing. I would suggest this package with two streams and a multicontroller:

Magnet holder:

The flow maybe too much with a sandbed or LPS. However, you can control the flow rates with the controller.

holy crap haha i wasnt looking to buy $700 worth of water motion. keep in mind im dealing with a smallish 24 x 24 cube tank.

would the 6080 be too strong for this distance?

You could always get the 6000 with single controller and add a maxijet for added flow if necessary.

haha yea for $350 a shot. not worth it IMO. I was weighing the cost and effectiveness between running a closed loop for circulation and somthing like a couple of tunze streams

With the type of flow they give, plus the amount they pump, plus wave action, and 15 watts of power used, I see it as worth it in the long run.

In a 60 cube you could get away with one stream and your sump returns.

so what if I ran one of these through a reostat to control speed? wouldnt work i guess.

I would expect that the pump may fail over time.

My tank runs:

1 Tunze stream 6000 on a single controller(Max 1850 GPH)

2 maxijet 1200s(295 GPH each)

1 penguin Powerhead(300 GPH)

2 returns pumping (about 1000 GPH)

im sure they are worth it.. ppl seem to love them.. my issue is whether or not they would be an overkill for only shooting 24 inches, from the back wall to the front.. and then let the front wall deflect the current however it will back onto the rockwork in the center.

I plan on replacing the Penguin and maxijets with a vortech when they come out.

I wanted the tunze wavebox, but it would spill water out of the tank.

You could aim it from the rear left corner to the front right corner or visa versa. If I were you I would run my return through a WavySea rotating return.

yea spilling water is generally not the best idea

hmmm ill do some more research... but you seem to think that if I put in one Tunze Stream 6080 that that would be adequate flow coupled with my sump return?

I plan on having the sump return somewhere near the TOP of the tank for surface movement (although im sure the tunze would take care of that itself.
