Who's got the lumenarcs out there? Minis and Maxis! :) How high are these suckers, I have a hood on a tank that is really limited in space and I'm wondering if I should go with either. Or if I should toss my hands up and go with T5 lights since I just found out how incredibly bright they are with the right reflectors.

My Lumenarc's are 9" tall.

My Mini's are 6.5".

Hmmm, looks like the standard lumenarcs are out then.

What's the range on the spread of the light? Since the mini's are about 5 inch shorter on a side, does that translate to that much area lost in focusing? 19.5^2 in. vs 14.5^2 in.

Hmmm wonder what effect would occur if I smooshed the height...

As far as I know, there hasn't been an independant study on the mini's.

What size tank are you planning to use them on? How many mini's would you use?

Sanjay tested the distribution of the small lumenarcs.

The tank I'd use them for is a 60" x 18" footprint that's 24" deep (115? gallons).

Thanks Chris, were there any other words along with that post? if so can you direct me there? Only one I remember reading is Sanjay's original reflector test which had the regular lumenarc.

Article here:
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/mar2004/feature.htm

Keep in mind that the first series of graphs (Figure 11) and the "Total Incident PPFD on a given Surface area" (Table 3) are totally output dependent and will vary depending on which ballasts/lamps are being used. In this particularly study Sanjay used a lamp that has very poor output to test the LA3 minis so those numbers won't look too impressive despite the fact that the reflectors are excellent.

The percent distribution charts (Figure 12) OTOH should be independent of lamp+ballast performance.

Two mini's ought to be fine for that. You could probably squeeze three of them in there then you'd really be all set.

Chris, thanks for posting Sanjays study of these reflectors. I tried to find that study once before with no luck. So I assumed that a study had not be preformed.
