Hello,

I need to make adjustments to my fuge which will require that I move half of the sand from one side to the other. This will probably release some anaerobic pockets which could make their way to the main 135 gal. tank, causing issues...

I'm looking for the best way to handle this sand moving process.

Should I cut off the fuge from the rest of the system, remove any snails/crabs, move the sand, then do a massive water change in the fuge before connecting it back into the main system?

Thanks for your thoughts...

How much sand are we talking about? If it were me I would isolate the fuge, remove the sand to clear the area you need to work in, do the work, replace with new sand, then do as large a fuge water change as you can.

I can't remember how many lbs but it's a 30gal tank (long) & the sand is approx. 4" deep.

Perhaps it would be best for me to fully remove the sand during this process (unfortunately I can't take the tank out from underneath the stand with the tank on top).
