BB maintenance question

Have a 145g and running BB. Every couple of weeks I turn up the flow on the return pump, put on a clean filter sock and then use a power head to blow off detritus off and under the rock.

What I don't do is siphon out the sand that's been shed off the LR beforehand. Wondering if it's something I should be bothering with?

I do siphont the bottom of my tank during WC's. I have my flow pattern so the detritus piles up in one corner of the tank where I can get right to it. I also blast the LR the day before the WC.

Siphon it out.

I would also blow off the rocks before you change the sock, so you get a new sock on the tank instead of one filled with detritus.
