While I love my new tank (the algae is finally going away! :P), I still occasionally reminesce about my first 10 gallon tank and my green open brain coral more then 20 years ago. I think I'll have to go buy me a brain coral this week ;)

What was your first coral?

Hehe. Maybe I'm too sentimental ;) I can still remember my 10 gallon with remarkable clarity. I remember how I felt when I bought my first coral and also how much i loved Elegance corals back then (as a kid, I couldn't afford them at the time).

Green Star polyps and a cabbage leather. Bought them the same day back in 98.

My first was an open brain (Trachyphyllia radiata) back in '92. I remember how expensive actinic bulbs were back then, and I initially tried to get away with one daylight and one cheap blacklight bulb from Orchard Supply

Hair algae of course!

JK

First coral was a finger leather. I still have a small piece in my tank from where I removed and sold the original colony.

Zoas and shrooms. But the 1st "real" coral was a bubble the size of my fist. By real I mean the 1st thing that cost me some money. I love shrooms and zoas, but untill you drop $50 on something it just isn't the same. Then it's $100, then $150...$200 Those are CORALS. I still have the bubble, 6 yrs old and bigger than my head

My first couple, purchased at the same time, were assorted mushrooms and some green zoos.

Still have both after several years now, gave away a buch of the ones that had spread onto other rocks.

1998 I think... Colt coral and a Xenia. Xenia melted in a day. Colt has paid for itself about 20 times over in frags I've passed on... but now I'm trying to frag it away to nothing as it tends to burn my sps corals on contact and I really want to have more sps.

Yup, that was my first coral way back when and it lived for 6 years without so much as a torn tenticle...sigh.

Xenia,
It grew like a weed, but that was good because it was back when you could get some real money for it!!!
