New ASM-G4

Just got my ASM-G4 in yesterday and not much in directions, I know its pretty much plug and go but after about 8 hrs of running does not make much foam. Am I doing something wrong?

How high is the riser pipe? They suggest running it even with the bottom of the collection cup to start.

Yes, I started out with it at that point last night and when I got up this morning I thought it should be some foam in the cup.

Maybe maybe not!
How far up the neck in the collection cup is the foam column? Raise and lower the riser tube to adjust the level.

Some people report skimmers not skimming for a couple of days.

It may take a few days to produce skimmate. usually a skimmer takes a good week or teo during the "break in period".

My Euroreef took about 2 days and hasn't stopped yet (Uutil I broke the impeller).

Raise it up high enough so it starts overflowing a little into the collection cup. Then work your way down from there. My G-3 started collection as soon as I plugged it in, but took a day or two in order to adjust itself to the right height of bubbles. It also has to do with how much there is to skim in your tank. Mine was BEGGING for a skimmer! Great skimmer! You will not be disappointed! :wink:

Its about 5yrs old. My current skimmer(Berlin XL) just wasnt doin the job any more. The tank is a 125g reef

out of curiosity what exactly needs to "break in" is there some residual stuff on the acrylic?

Yeah, there can be - oils, residues, dust, etc. That can inhibit skimming much like the effect when you add certain foods to your system. Rinsing the skimmer well in warm water before using it can help speed the break-in process.

Everything seems to be going fine now, got up this morning and the cup was nice and frothy, thank alot for your support and answering my questions.
