Hey cjsrch, what's with the eggcrate on the backside? Also, how did you get the cool/weird flared PVC output nozzles?

the eggcrate is to keep the rock off the acrylic

i just attached xenia to it so it wont be visiable ( already starting to spread!)

the pvc was very very simple ( and painful :P.... also i forgot to flare one of the outlets and the flow from it is deffinitly alot narrower and faster)
anyways i took a pvc elbow and used a pipe cutter ( the ratcheting type.) to cut slits in to it after that i boiled water and let the pvc sit in the water for a few seconds befor taking it out. i then used a spoon and just ran it in circles around hte inside till all the flaps were pressed outward and curved nicly. then i let them cool ... that was a mistake since pvc slowly returns to its original shape.. i had to do it again and this time dip them in icewater to instantly cool them so they would retain the shape

i love the outputs . its a strong current ( 1200 gph) but you can hardly feel it since its so wide ( 1 inch output plus the flares) kinda like a tunzes output

Why didn't you just use 1 1/2" fittings on the ends instead of going through the trouble of cutting and flaring 1" pipe? It would have accomplished the same thing with a whole lot less effort. You also could have used loc-line pipe inside the aquarium along with their flared outputs. Again, this would have been simpler, more effective and less conspicuous than the PVC. Lastly, you could have used a tee-fitting and multiple 1" returns to dissipate the flow but retain the volume.

Regarding the eggcrate, why not just let the xenia grow up the back wall instead? IMO, that would have been a lot more attractive and simple.

Although you didn't ask, you might want to open up the rock structure a little to make it more interesting and increase the water circulation. Also, if it were my tank, I'd remove half the sand, unless you have a particular need for a DSB in the aquarium. It takes up a lot of valuable real estate and isn't particularly attractive.

And what the heck is that large PVC U-shaped fitting in the middle of the aquarium? I hope it's a reflection.

I was wondering the same thing. It looks like one the fittings for sinks, but why is it there? :?

its my overflow

i had to make the pipe go down before i could make it go back up and it was either use that or a bunch of pvc reason is the hole is to close to the top but not close enough .. its confusing..
if you look near it you will also see a white screen. i was trying to get the most surface area for the intake to maximize the time between when i clean it ( since im gone alot and it takes alot of work to open the tnak hood) yes its kinda ghetto but when standing infront of the tank you cant see it unless your short( or sitting) and when sitting.. you dont even look at the top of the tank... if you want the full story behind it that would involve bashing the company that made it

egg crate is there to keep the rock off the glass.

the rock structure is more open the it looks. i have lots of caves and can fit my arm to almost the center of the rock

i decided to flare the outlets instead of using bigger for 2 reasons. 1 a bigger pipe wouldent of fit over the tanks and throu the slot on the back and 2. the flare actualy changes the flow. it is compleatly different then if i just used a bigger.
youd have to see it when i add food to the tank but it actualy sucks a lil from the back ( may actualy be acting almost like a very very very weak phen ductor. . just trust me. it was thought out

 for your sanity's sake, just stop counting now. Spending money on your reef is sort of like drowning, they say it's actually pleasant once you quite struggling ;)

Nice job so far!

I quit counting at six for the sake of my own sanity. Id bet most with 120s and larger all could agree. There is a reason we can all have a couple hobbies at once. My brother just spent a thousand on a remote control car. Tank looks good BTW

yeah after my last ballast purchas and coral purchas i stoped counting. lol. it hurt to much to think about it :( 220 bucks for an icecap ballast at the lfs.. but i needed it that very day so..... anyways now i have 3 ballast. 1 as a spare ^^)
i still need to find a uyse for my 2 mag 9.5's i was thinking closed loop but now im thinking of waiting and just using taam polario pump on a closed loop instead ( turbin pump hthat varys the output and direction of the water)
