I have a the Prizm Pro Deluxe as a hang on skimmer. The thing seems a bit to noisy for my liking.

I would love to hear suggestions on how to make this operate a little more quietly. Any helpful advise is appreciated. :)

Having owned a couple of them, I can tell you they'll always sound like an old fashioned coffee pot perculating. Frankly for the noise they make, they are lousy as skimmers IMO.

Sell it and get something better.

It does seem to have a few problems. Getting a good mix of air without overflowing the cup is a challenge. I learned that today after cleanup #1.

I hoped to get by without a sump but it seems that will be the best option if this model is an indication of hang on types.

I'd like to hear from someone who has success with this skimmer. Please, share the secret.

Extend the tube an extra 4 feet. It works like a reverse muffler...I had one and it leaked when I was on vacation. So I dumped it like an ex-girlfriend. Buy the best, cry once.

bomberator - you still dont need a sump. What size tank do you have?

AqaucC Remora, Precision MArine HOT or the CPR Bakpak are goor hang on skimmers.

I have been using a Prizm for 8 months now, on a 30 gal reef. I think it works great as long as you keep it clean. ie: the air intake, impeller, and the cup. If mine starts to puff and huff I unplug it wait a few seconds and plug it back in and re adjust it. This might sound like a lot of maintenance for a skimmer, but it is just part of my weekly chores. That is my two cents worth. I can't even hear mine unless it has gotten out of adjustment. Is your Prizm new ?? I think it takes a couple of days to break in.

What size tank do you have?
150 gallon.

In operating for a couple days now, it appears to be doing an ok job of skimming. But, the noise is still annoying. It reminds me of a rattleing window air conditioning unit I once had (kept the place cool but you couldn't hear a thing).

You have probably have the larger Prizim model than I do, so I'm not much help. I did have the occasion to call their customer service on a part number and found that they were extremely helpful. The number for the U.S. is 281-447-0205. Hope that helps.

150G is a nice size tank but I would think you would need a high powered skimmer.

I think Deltec makes hang on skimmers that can handle that size tank. They are $$$$$$$$$ but from what I have read and seen they make a heck of a skimmer.

The Prism is just not a good skimmer.

I had one once - I smashed into tiny tiny pieces.

I have been looking into the Deltec 500. Everything I hear/read about it sounds impressive.

The Prizm has been up for a few days now and it is doing a decent job of skimming. At this point, I could live with it if it weren't for the noise.

the deltec is awesome. I got one for a buddy. the mce600. by far the best hang-on skimmer i have ever seen. and it is silent. the aqua-bee pump s great and the bubble size is micro..

my next hang on skimmer will be that one....
