i was shocked. i couldn't believe it. i always assumed that if the bulb turned on, it was good.

should you really replace light bulbs every year?

----then the wife looks over and says, "you wanna play? you gotta pay"

Yes it is true. Bulbs lose their color spectrum and you can't really see that with the naked eye. Some bulbs last longer than others. One year for metal halides is a good rule of thumb. Less for fluorescent.

Yeah it's true, and depending upon the bulb maybe sooner than a year. As mentioned it'll tend to look fine to your eye because you'll only see gradual changes but once you put in a new bulb(s) you'll go "WOW! Look how much brighter it is"

Bluer bulbs tend to need to be replaced sooner (especially 20kK MH bulbs), actinic bulbs you can usually scrimp on because they only make things fluoresce.

wasnt sure if you ment less often for florecants or less time between replacing but to make it easy here ya go

8months - 1 yr for MH 6-8 months for PC 1 year to 18 months for VHO and over 2 years for t5

based on things said by different experts book and manufacturer specs

my bulbs are from may 2004.
how much for bulbs?
where is the best deal to buy bulbs?

Metal hallide 250W 10000K (1)
Coralife compacts with 9w(?) white and blue 10000K (x2)
Coralife actinc 03 florecent (x2)

could this explain why my mushrooms have turned white, my button polyps won't extend tentacals, and i lost a clam, when all water parameters are correct?
