I am thinking about getting a ClassCages.com's 120 gallon or a Oceanic 120 Gallon (no centerbrace (because it is 3/4" thick all around)). Both drilled.

Now we have set up what we are working with. What do you think about lighting?

I am thinking about putting:

  • Dual 250 watt HQI's.
    • Ballast: Sunlight Supply's Electronic Blue Wave 7. (save energy)
    • Pendents: Reef Opti 3's from Sunlight Supply
    • Bulbs: Megachrome 13KK
    • VHO: 440 Watts Actinic

Comments on this setup? I am going for growth and color.

Or should I be a test subject for the new PFO LED fixture?

One of the most impressive 120g tanks I have seen is owned by a local friend/club member in WRS. It consists of dual 250wattDE Ushio 10,000K bulbs on HQI ballasts (Hamilton, but I would go PFO or SLS instead). And then, 4x54wattT5 bulbs...2 bulbs are blue+ and 2 are actinic+. The blue+ bulbs have a much better spectrum for supplimenting 10,000Ks than just actinics, and are much brighter. His tank can grow anything (ASM G3 skimmmer, dual Tunze 6100s, and a calcium reactor are the other critical specs), and looks great.

Looks good to me. I don't know anything about those bulbs though. That should be plenty of light for most species.

BTW.. I just picked up a 60 gallon tank from glasscages today, and I was impressed. Good solid tank.. they made my 60 cube out of 1/2 inch glass, and eurobraced the top and bottom of the tank. The owner was also super nice and gave us a tour of his tank making "complex"

Glass Cages = A+
