I just purchased a phoenix 250W DE bulb from premium aquatics. Regular shipping took 2 days, so very happy with the RDO sponsor. Anyway, I had been running 20K XM DE 250 and the difference is immense. The bulbs are only 6 months old but holy cow they are dim dim dim dim dim. I am in the ordering process for a second phoenix for my other pendant. I cannot believe the difference. I will post a pic. Keep in mind the XM bulbs are only 5.5 mopnths old. HUGE difference. Give me a few minutes to post the pic.

what color temperature are those new bulbs? I just got one of the 12000k reflux bulbs, and it seems to be a nice crisp color.

They are the 14K flavor. I don't have any room for supplemental actintics so I have to use something that is a bit bluer than the 10K. I am very very happy with the first bulb thus far. Great color and intensity. As I said it is a VAST difference. I just missed my lights out time so pics will have to wait until sunday. I work a 24 hour patrol tomorrow. Thus far, very satisfied with the look of the phoenix.

I had to go to the commisary, get a hair cut (high and tight of course), change the air filters on our trucks and unload teh groceries. As soon as I set up the camera on the tripod the lights went off. I mean, why wouldn't they right? So now the sun is coming through the back door and shining right into where the picture would be shot...sooooo...to make a short story long, I will wait until tonight when the sun goes down. There. HA. HMMMPFF!!!

The right side is the Phoenix bulb, the left is the 20k XM 6 Months old. The verdict? Guilty as charged. I don't know what the charge is, but it can't be good. It is way more different in person, but that is the best I can do photo wise.

Yeah, who would have thunk it a half year old super blue bulb doesn't look as bright as a brand new bulb ;)

I use xm 20k's too I have had mine in for about 8 months and its time to change them out. I am going to try the Phoenix bulbs. They were recommended by a friend but I have not noticed the dimming like you have experienced. My montipora caps seem to love them.

I recently got the phx 250w de 14k's. I was using hamiltons and the difference is huge. my corals are more colorfull and the light is real crisp. very good choice. I think i am gonna stick with these unless i end up needing more PAR. have 3 250w'ers on a 6 foot tank. the look great. my t.derasa sits in the middle under one of the bulbs and is "happy as a clam"

Maybe I'm crazy but I like the left side more. :?

I prefer the bluer lamps. I like the coloration they bring out. I have tried 10K, 14K and 20K and its 20K for me all the way. JMO.

I like the bluer colors as well, but the 20k is just so very dim. The pics don't quiet show the whole issue. In person they are so much dimmer that it makes the tank look like perpetual twilight. I don't think the corals were very appreciative of the dimming lights.
