Thank you all! you guys are most helpful!

I will try the bioball trick tonight. thanks!

i actually have no thought of using a velocity T4 in this 10' application (if you have used it before you know hoe hot is one of those babies get!!)

i might end up buying a lower, pressure rated pump for the sump. thank you for the idfea of switching it around! you guys are geneis!

my Skimmer is ASM G5 and it have 2 sedra 9000 on it. so i am not sure the flow rate on the skimmer. they are supposed to be real good... can anyone calcluate how much flow i actually need for the sump return?

Also, i will get a Oceansmotion 4 way for the CL if i use the barracuda... is it a good idea or am i wasting my $$?

thank you all! 8O

Knucklehead,

Did you read the last sentence, the edit note. He did some research and found out that switching pumps would actually be worst that it is at the moment. Hardly a "best" solution.

You must have skipped that line... happens to the best of us.

Actually I think I read it right.

He is saying by switching pumps you would be gaining more flow in the display where you want it.

Having a pump rated at 1100 at 10 feet is much more manageable than having one rated at 2700 at 10 feet.

The pump getting hot shouldn't be a problem since its in the basement and not in the actual sump tank right?

I have an Iwaki and its hot to the touch, not much gets transferred to the water though

I think the barracuda with the ocean motions 4-way (super squirt) is an excellent idea. It is exactly what im am planning on using in my 120. I figure that if the pump is too much for the 4-way to handle I can split the flow and use half or so for constant and the other half for wave action. I also agree with knucklehead on the heat transfer regarding the T-4. The electric motor shouldn't really transfer to much heat from the motor to the impeller. I just read on it and it has a 50PSI shut off and thermal protection. What do you have to lose other than a few bucks in plumbing and some time if you have to switch it back. Its worth a try. Good luck and keep us posted. :wink:

Please accept my sincere appologies. I am the one that should learn to read.

Sorry again. :oops:

Thank you for all your help!

The last 2 weeks has been hectic, things happens in conjunction with everything that can go wrong.

1. I started to have inconsistent bubble count on my CO2... (in my holding facility)

2. Fixed that for like 14 days, until I get instructions from the manufacturer. it was fixed.

3. then i have to re-tune my calcium reactor, and my water was out of whack... and rock structure falls apart... big loss there as SPS’s are burnt by LPS’s for the whole workday.... plus bonus ---- my blueface juv, after being a excellent reef citizen for 2.5 years, decided to nip at my priced crocea clams. :(

4. then my HQI bulb fail on me, replaced with new one and found out 2 days ago the UV shield glass was all shattered and falls to my holding tank.. that was messy... so changed to a MH bulb setup

5. all of the fish I ordered for like a year (purple tang, vlamingi tang, multicolor angel, red sea regal, pakistini butterfly) all arrived within the same week these stuff happens, it is sitting in the LFS

6. all these are happening, and the micorbubbles in the new setup, plus---- yesterday i found out the main piping was slightly leaking and also, my CO2 solenoid failed and shooting CO2 into my tank for like 5-6 hours non stop, my holding tank pH drop to 7.5 and my recirc pump in my calcium reactor was screwed because it was ran dry for like i don't know how long....

all these happened in a matter of 10 days.

8O but i still kept an open mind and try to make things happen.

so what i did yesterday was dissemble the calcium reactor, need to do some shopping for new solenoid and recirc pump.... fix piping, (still drying BTW), put bioballs in. and i think i am going to leave it till Saturday, and wait for my Glassman to drill a hole at the right side for the pump intake (thus make the water travel longer, hopefully that will eliminate some bubbles.)

the bioballs helps a little bit as it have the same bubble removing capacity as putting 2 foam pads on 2 of the baffles. But I think the biggest improvement came when I try to make the water level higher, the sump water level is now 4 inch higher and I see noticeable difference. Therefore I will do that and make adjustment to the float valve assembly as necessary.

I will try my best to get rid of all the bubbles using the existing setup, and use the switch method as the last resort (I don’t want to redo piping… it is a pain in the Xss) will keep you guys posted for updates

Here is my setup in brief:

Main = 68inchX24X26H

Sump 1 = 48X16X20
Bafflesump = 30X18X18
