Catalina compacts

Has anyone had experiece with Catalina compacts? I bought a bulb from ebay 96 watt PC. I did not even think about the manufacturer. When i t arrived I saw th catalina compact packaging and was dissappointed. I think i recall hearing that the catalina compacts were junk. Since I have change the bulb my xenia has balled up and not extending polyps. All the xenia is doing this, in every location of the tank. I know that there is adjustment period for the animals when replacing light bulbs but this beyond simple adjustment to new lighting. Everything else is fine. I suspect that the catalina compact bulb is to blame. Anyone hear anything or have experience with catalina compacts.
