tap water at 475ca is that something normal..........?

Well i got a test kit today. and i was surprised i didn't think that my ca was where it is .checked it twice but does anyone else have water like this ???!!!! Welll everything I put in the reef explodes. I just can't beleave that my water prams could be that good?

Is your water from well, or from one of the Lakes? MI should have softer water unless it is well water. Over here in california, we have very hard water.

Depends on what else is in the tap water, you may end up remove everything on it when you use it. So the higher the calcium, the more work you need to do to get it to use for your fish tank.

The water is straight from my well.I haven't had the extra money to get a RO system yet and the RO water from the local stores has not been testing very good so been using water from home all the corals have really took off.

sometimes tanks do very good with tap and well water but watch out over time. things begin to accumulate.

You will need RO water.

I tried running a reef tank with well water that had a similar calcium level.

The problem is not using the water for the initial set up. In fact, the corals loved it and the coralline grew really fast.

The problem is top off. You keep adding gallons of that high calcium water every week and it builds and builds and builds until your calcium and alkalinity levels are off the charts. 8O


If it is only high in calcium and no other bad minerals, you can probably use it to start up, but you will need RO water for top off and water changes to avoid the build up scenario.
