I just had a cluster of dwarf cuttles hatch on monday night (3/13).
My questions are as follows: I have a 10 gallon set up with a
breeder net for the babies to hang in for right now I am useing
a cycled power filter that does about 150 gallons an hour and I
am getting a little ammonia and nitrite spike with about 3 baby
cuttles and the rest of the unhatched eggs why is this? Are 3
little dwarf cuttles actually producing that much waste for my
set up? The only thing I can think of is that the unhatched eggs
are producing the waste could this be so?? My ammonia is at
0.3 ppm and nitrite is at 0.3 ppm nitrates are at 5 ppm. I have
also not noticed the babies eat yet I have live mysid and amphopods
of all different sizes for them to eat do they take a while to start
eating? They are now 3 days old!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

They do take a while to start eating and you may not see them eat at first. Do you have the pods and mysids in there with them all the time?

It seems that unhatched eggs give off ammonia.

Eggs and hatchlings produce ammonia ... newly hatched cuttles often have some yolk sac still attached and will feed off this for a few days ... but once that it used up they will start feeding ravenously.
