First, my bubble coral decides it likes to eat fish and lots of them (thankfully no wrasses). Then one of my shrimp decides that Maxima clams are yummy. Shrimps and Bubble Coral shall be exiled.

Knowing my recent luck, my SPS corals are going to start singing Celine Dion songs.

/end of vent ;)

You were my strength when I was weak
You were my voice when I couldn't speak
You were my eyes when I couldn't see
You saw the best there was in me
Lifted me up when I couldn't reach
You gave me faith 'coz you believed
I'm everything I am
Because you loved me

Doesn't sound too bad, Len. Fish-eating bubble coral can be expected, and you can easily remove that.

Shrimp pretty much won't bother a completely healthy clam. Sounds like something could be wrong, so keep an eye on it. My shrimp was bothering my maxima shortly before it began to exhibit 'pinched mantle', which is caused by a protozoa. After 4 freshwater dips, it's finally recovering and the shrimp hasn't picked at it since :D

This is the second clam my shrimp has gone after. It might be ill, but it looks fine to me thus far. I'll give it a FW dip and see if that helps.

FYI: I have two shrimps, and only one does this to the clams.

Sometimes the decay won't be apparent through outside appearance. I believe a FW dip is only recommended for pinched mantle, and it possibly could be something else. Don't jump to a FW dip just yet.

Of the 3 fire shrimp I had, only one was bothering it at the time.

The purpose of the FW was to destroy the protozoa that causes pinched mantle. I had first done 2 30 minute FW dips, 5 days apart. There was noticeable improvement after each. Than I did 2 15 minute FW dips afterwards, but with a regular dose of Seachem's coral dip. Also, 5 days apart. Now, the worst hit area is now recovering.

I wouldn't normally recommend iodine-type dips for clams, but I did not want to risk losing this guy. This was for my colored tear-drop maxima, which is probably the most sensitive clam out there. So, I'd say the risk was very high.

Just an FYI...

The pinched mantle occurred shortly after introducing two Hippopus clams. My baby crocea also developed the pinched mantle at the same time. Only one 30 min SW dip was required to cure the crocea. I also dipped the Hippopus clams as a preventative measure, as pinched mantle won't show on these guys.

I never had luck with iodine dips and clams. The dip seems to do more harm then good so I've never had confidence doing them again.

I agree, which is why I went with Seachem Coral Dip instead of Lugol's. The regular dose is very mild.

Two Helfrichi firefishes and a Telelabrus sp. They're all kinda slow, moping fish. The faster wrasses are all fine.

Ouch.

My bubble never got anybody....yet. I would blame my carpet long before the bubble.

Sorry to hear that, Len! One of the worst things I have felt in the past relating to aquarium keeping is having something in your tank that you really enjoy go out and "have their way" with something else that is in there.

It's kind of like having one of your kids EAT the other one! 8O

Well, then again, maybe not that drastic. But sorry anyways! Helfrichis and that terelabrus are beautiful fish! :(
